Forest in hoarfrost - Alexei Kondratievich Savrasov. 109 x 80 cm
The painting "Forest in hoarfrost" was painted in the 1890s. It seemed that everyone had forgotten about Savrasov: during his lifetime he was considered dead in the Kondakov reference book. Naturally, gloomy motifs are noticeable in the works of that time.
Despite everything, the author’s talent remained as powerful as it was in its heyday. Using the example of this creation, we can clearly see that this is true.
There are no dark colors in the picture to be expected, knowing the conditions in which it was painted. However, in comparison with earlier works, the sky here is not so open and radiant - now the author doubts the divine justice. The sense of hopelessness is expressed in the limited panorama. A man huddles in his small hut on a microscopic site, separated by a fence from nature, which gave him life. On this canvas Savrasov is no longer seen so characteristic of his work harmony.
The only thing that remained unchanged in the artist’s work was his reflection of the finest details of nature, imbued with love. The colors of the evening sky are strikingly precisely matched: gentle tones, smooth transitions. In the distance you can see the wall of pines. Bred they are slightly blurry: the impression is that they oscillate in the wind.
The colors of the sky, changing from pale blue to fiery orange, reflect the life of the author. He looks back at her, sees in the beginning and middle of her a lot of happy moments, but in the end everything burns with fire.
Recent years have been difficult, but it was they that became the time of the triumph of the talent of the master. In material reality, he did not find happiness, and from this he only plunged deeper into the saving world of painting.
